In my parochial upbringing, this was referred to as "Black Irish" by most Irish families. Spanish blood, Caribbean stops on the way to New world, no one knows. lots of different theories. it's common.

He, my mom and John share that skin and the ability to stay at the beach allllll day. Paul and Peter and I got the short end of the stick in that regard.

Yes! Same memory for me.... beach + newspaper. We often went. He was a great beach companion... could stay all day. Dark skin. Good for that!

Always newspapers with him everywhere, right? I thought it a rite of passage when my brothers taught me to fold the paper that way.

He always brought the newspaper to the beach! Making sure it was folded correctly so it wouldn't blow in the wind.
